چکیده

Abstract Direct photons play an important role as electromagnetic probes from the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) which occurs during ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. In this context, it is of particular interest how the finite lifetime of the QGP affects the resulting photon production. Earlier investigations on this question were accompanied by a divergent contribution from the vacuum polarization and by the remaining contributions not being integrable in the ultraviolet (UV) domain. In this work, we provide a different approach in which we do not consider the photon number density at finite times, but for free asymptotic states obtained by switching the electromagnetic interaction according to the Gell-Mann and Low theorem. This procedure eliminates a possible unphysical contribution from the vacuum polarization and, moreover, renders the photon number density UV integrable. It is emphasized that the consideration of free asymptotic states is, indeed, crucial to obtain such physically reasonable results.

Finite lifetime effects on the photon production from a quark-gluon plasma

We use the real-time Keldysh formalism to investigate finite lifetime effects on the photon emission from a quark-gluon plasma (QGP). We provide an ansatz which eliminates the divergent contribution from the vacuum polarization and renders the photon spectrum UV-finite if the time evolution of the QGP is described in a suitable manner. The quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created during heavy-ion colli...

Non-equilibrium photon production arising from the chiral mass shift

We investigate the photon emission arising from the shift of the quark/antiquark masses during the chiral phase transition in the early stage of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. As this mass shift leads to spontaneous creation of quark-antiquark pairs and thus contributes to the formation of the quark-gluon plasma, our investigations are relevant in the context of finite-lifetime effects...

Induced photon emission from quark jets in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions

We study the induced photon bremsstrahlung from a fast quark produced in AA-collisions due to multiple scattering in quark-gluon plasma. For RHIC and LHC conditions the induced photon spectrum is sharply peaked at photon energy close to the initial quark energy. In this region the contribution of the induced radiation to the photon fragmentation function exceeds the ordinary vacuum radiation. C...

Effect of baryon density on parton production, chemical equilibration and thermal photon emission from quark gluon plasma

The effect of baryon density on parton production processes of gg ⇀↽ ggg and gg ⇀↽ qq̄ is studied using full phase space distribution function and also with inclusion of quantum statistics i.e. Pauli blocking and Bose enhancement factors, in the case of both saturated and unsaturated quark gluon plasma. The rate for the process gg ⇀↽ qq̄ is found to be much less as compared to the most commonly u...

Empirical Emission Functions for LPM Suppression of Photon Emission from Quark-Gluon Plasma

The LPM suppression of photon emission rates from the quark gluon plasma have been studied at different physical conditions of the plasma given by temperature and chemical potentials. The integral equation for the transverse vector function (̃f(p̃⊥)) consisting of multiple scattering effects is solved by the variational method as well as the self consistent iterations method for the parameter set...
